comfortably numb

Wow, Seems like these words were written for me

Hello.
Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me.
Is there anyone home?

Come on, now.
I hear you’re feeling down.
Well I can ease your pain,
Get you on your feet again.

Relax.
I need some information first.
Just the basic facts:
Can you show me where it hurts?

There is no pain, you are receding.
A distant ship’s smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can’t hear what you’re sayin’.
When I was a child I had a fever.
My hands felt just like two balloons.
Now I got that feeling once again.
I can’t explain, you would not understand.
This is not how I am.
I have become comfortably numb.

Ok.
Just a little pinprick. [ping]
There’ll be no more --aaaaaahhhhh!
But you may feel a little sick.

Can you stand up?
I do believe it’s working. good.
That’ll keep you going for the show.
Come on it’s time to go.

There is no pain, you are receding.
A distant ship’s smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can’t hear what you’re sayin’.
When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse,
Out of the corner of my eye.
I turned to look but it was gone.
I cannot put my finger on it now.
The child is grown, the dream is gone.
I have become comfortably numb.

Silent corridors

The corridors of my hostel are silent, no more do I wake to the sound of loud rock music, the mess seems like a deserted place and the flowers bloom for no one. Another flock of hatchlings have left their nest in search of their identity and destiny. Though the countdown shows 4 days left for the PGP II‘s to depart it seems they have already left. You might think so what’s new it happens every year! But its not, I remember coming to this place and being taken for a royal ride by my seniors during the induction program, ever since a fresher (fachha) sets foot on the lawns of IIM L everyone relies on their seniors for every thing right from bus timings to deciding ones specialization/career. The senior is like the North Star showing you the way; I remember the umpteen number of times going to a seniors room “Hey Magga tell me how to get this damn balance sheet thingy done man” or “ Da ! I need some grub, I’m hungry and the mess is closed” and I don’t remember a single time when I had to return empty handed. The seniors were always there when you needed them.

Hope you guys find success in your venture’s and make a name for yourself so that some day I can boast to a group of friends saying “You know he lived in my hostel and was my neighbour”. But I sure will miss the moments we spent here at hell be it the 8:25am traffic jam to catch a wash basin just before the 8:30am class or dancing to the tune of the dholaks while other threw water at you.

Hope you have a great life

The Insatiable human thirst

The human mind is an almost comical place, unlike the other parts of the body that prefer to keep shut when content (e.g. Stomach) this dude keeps spinning yarns of wants and desires. The matter is worsened by the fact that as soon as one want is satisfied the damn thing comes up with the next want which is an even more problematic to achieve. It’s like an ever present push for getting more than what you can afford or bargain. I’m not referring to wants like want for food or water etc we are talking about the works “Man!! I want that car”, “Wow what a babe”, by now I guess you guy must have a pretty good idea of what I’m talking about.

This is leading is too is a more and more materialistic approach towards life where everything is measured on the basis of flash and pomp. I’m not saying that I’m a saint who has no relations with Mohha Maya. The thing I want to highlight here is the greed of the human brain. Take for example an affluent and well to do family, I know of one family where the house had four cars for 3 people living in the house. Taking it a step further consider a guy who buys a 420,000 pound Ferrari Enzo (Nick Mason – drummer for pink floyd) a 60+ year old bloke who buys every Ferrari model produced but prefers to travel using his own personal chopper or jet (amusing huh). I makes me wonder if anyone has that kind of money to spare why not spend it on some more worthy cause l (how I wish I could say “Like me” HEHE). Luxury is good but I think pushing too far makes it a bit repulsive for others. Its this disparity in the wealth distribution which has lead to the fall of many countries and kingdoms through revolts and revolutions.

This is a brewing problem in India too, why do you think that 15-16 year olds in the chawls of dharavi (If you have been there you know what I’m talking about, well if you have not it’s the largest slum in Asia, it will give you an exaggerated picture of what hell looks like) pick up arms and commit their first crime. I feel its we that are equally responsible! Think of looking around and seeing wealth, glitz and glamour everywhere while you sit in a pit full of vermin. As they say when you are cornered there is no conscience and there is no god, Everything is justified, even of that means digging out a gun and blowing the guts out of some potbellied businessman for a few grand’s (sounds gross HUH) but then what are the options ? Well its kind-a ironic with me sitting in a cozy room with a laptop and my parents dishing out their share of fortunes on my education, and me writing this post. I belong to same class of people who would be the future potbellied businessmen, and come to think of it even though this sounds like a moral responsibility of mine to help the less fortunate I guess I wont when I earn my share of fortunes that’s when my ever hungry mind will ask for swanky new car eventhough I have two lying my garage and forget it ever thought about this post!!

Hoping to stand the test of time and money.
